Luke Shaw out for more than Six month

Shaw moved to Old Trafford from Southampton in June last year in a £31m deal and made 20 appearances in the first season. He has begun the majority of United's eight games this season, and in addition playing in England's European Championship qualifiers against San Marino and Switzerland.

Luke Shaw suffered a double fracture on his leg in United's 2-1 Champions League loss at PSV Eindhoven. Shaw, 20, was in tears when he was carried off on a stretcher after Hector Moreno's tackle. He received oxygen while being treated on the pitch after the awful tackle.

The Mexican centre-back Moreno escaped censure for the challenge on Shaw, and Van Gaal was unhappy referee Nicola Rizzoli took no action.

"It is awful. It was a very bad tackle. He had the oxygen mask on and was crying in the dressing room," said manager Louis van Gaal.

The Aaron Ramsey tweeted: "Fingers crossed for Luke Shaw. Get well soon."

PSV manager Phillip Cocu expressed sympathy for Shaw, and said Moreno had not intended to hurt him.

Shaw was ruled out for nine months because of a similar injury against Stoke in 2010.
