Nicolas Anelka has joined Indian Super League club Mumbai City FC


The former France international striker Nicolas Anelka has declared that he has joined Indian Super League club Mumbai City FC.

According to the Guardian, 35-year-old was without a club since leaving West Brom following his ban for using the quenelle gesture (which is deemed to have anti-Semitic sentiments) against West Ham in a Premier League clash.

Nicolas Anelka has played for Europe's top clubs during his entire career, such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Juventus, Liverpool and Real Madrid among others.

Anelka posted on his twitter account, "I'm pleased to join Mumbai City FC & very exciting in joining Indian Super League. Talented international players and top Indian talent will make matches thrilling affairs. I look forward to using my ability to do well for my team in the matches we play.”

Team owner Ranbir Kapoor said on the signing of Anelka that, “We are delighted to announce the signing of Nicolas Anelka and thrilled that a player with a stunning pedigree such as his is part of our team. His abilities and experience are known the world over and I am certain his presence will give us the firepower required upfront. We welcome him to the Mumbai City FC squad.”

The inaugural season of the Indian Super League(ISL) kick-starts in October 2014.
