Nicolas Anelka is banned for five games

Nicolas Anelka is banned for five games by Football association after his controversial “quenelle” gesture against West Ham United.

During a match against West Ham on 28 Dec. 2013 which ended up in 3-3 draw Anelka performed the controversial gesture. He was charged with making the gesture that was judged to be “abusive” under the Football Association's new anti-discrimination rules.
The 34 year old France international has also been fined 80,000 pounds and ordered to complete a compulsory education course. He has seven days to lodge an appeal.
The statement from the Football reads "An independent regulatory commission has found an aggravated breach of FA rule E3 against Nicolas Anelka proven and has issued a five-match suspension and a fine of 80,000 pounds, pending appeal.”
